The Neanderthal city of Palenka is in flames, destroyed by the Australopith Moon Clan. Leaving Kulkan, Warrior King of the Skybearers, and Xotol to gather survivors and search for a safe route home. But in a fraught journey they discover a building that questions their understanding of the world.
