After the success of the campaign to sit in Nashville, John Lewis are more committed than ever to change the world through non-violence - but as he and his fellow Freedom Riders aboard a bus in the heart of a vicious deep south, they will be tested as never before.

Faced with beatings, police brutality, imprisonment, arson and even murder, young activists struggle with internal conflicts as well. But their courage to draw the attention of powerful allies from the Martin Luther King Jr. to Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy ... and one day, Lewis was elected chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, this 23-year-old will be thrust into the national spotlight, becoming one of the "big Six "leaders of the civil rights movement and the central figure in a landmark 1963 March on Washington.
