Wolfpack #01-12 Complete

Wolfpack is one of the forgotten comics of the 1980s ... and optionally , is not without reason .

While Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams opposition to social issues in the pages of Green Arrow / Green Lantern was praised and cited as a pioneering work , Wolfpack, which covers such topics seems to have been largely overlooked. Published in 1988 and is located in the South Bronx , Wolfpack consist of several racial group of teenagers recruited dark figure , Mac fight ancient and mysterious cult known as the Nine . Now , much of this history occurred in the graphic novel , also called Wolfpack which was published last year, but resumed in the first pages of the first issue .

The team consists of members of the slag , recruited for their strength , Raphael for his martial arts prowess, Sharon for her speed , slippery Sam for his ninja skills and wheels for it ... uh ... wheel. The series begins with Mac, their mentor and coach that jumped and walked away, leaving " updates to find their feet , their purpose and develop their skills . The main problem with this premise is awkward handling of street Topics in this story. With the initial history taking place in Horace Harding High School, projects , school -based offenders and street language and stereotypes border on outright racism. So, it was the 80s and upward Denny O'Neil run pulled the same stereotypes when they exhausted their talents , but the Wolfpack , originally at least , seems to be more focused on what realistic and something outside the norm comics time. this makes genuine attempts language, looks and mannerisms that much more uncomfortable. Having said that, one thing that can not be faulted in the early books series is its intention. this means , in order to attract attention to the very real problems with drugs, race, gender, poverty, inequality and violence and from the mainstream comic book company in the 80s , it was a bold step.

Unfortunately , beliefs creators and publisher seemed failures around the issue of five stamps and what began as an intriguing , if clumsily executed look into the world of street crime is told through a quasi -superheroics, went to second rate spandex fare. With the introduction of their arch vragamDevyati , Wolfpack seems to lose its way , unable to fully bridge the gap between the sandy street drama and high flying heroics . What makes the concept even more convincing is the pencil work of Ron Wilson, who , while valiantly trying to convey the hardness of the street, completely out of his league in the development of the choreography of action scenes that make up the conclusion of this series. It's a shame , because I often enjoyed his 70 - work on characters such as The Thing and Power Man. Unfortunately, many of his works here looks preliminary sketches to the final piece and although ink Kyle Baker ( outstanding illustrator in his own right ) give the initial issues some charm , later signed questions in a more direct manner Chris Ivey are , at times , ridiculously uncomfortable .

Of course, having said all that , I should note that the Wolfpack when first released was one of my favorite stories of all time . For impressionable fourteen years Wolfpack was like nothing I've ever read before seeing the shock and drug urban environments and characters with real teen issues raised me to my very soul teen . It is a pity that such a great concept was so clumsily executed, but that he was never considered subsequent generations of comics creators. Can you imagine what Greg Rucka could do with the concept ? Mark Millar ? GARTH ENNIS! ? I live in eternal hope that someone close to the powers that be are reading this ...
